No matter how fast a road car is, a race car is always faster.

No matter how fast your not-F1 race car is, a slow F1 car is still faster.

The only exception MIGHT be a fast LMP1 car. We'll have them at COTA in several weeks, but I'm betting that the fastest WEC LMP1 quali time will still be slower (but only barely) than the Q1 107% time from the F1 race last year.

I also think that this year's F1 quali times at COTA will be faster, possibly by a couple seconds. There's been a year of burnishing and Pirelli will hopefully bring slightly squishier rubber. I'll bet someone can make it around in 1:33 and change.

I thought the things on the images on the left were at a track day, I saw a GTR, a focus, even a Porsche. I saw some other thing, but they looked like Radials and stuff, so I just assumed track cars were there too.

Also Can-am cars were faster than the F1 cars during their time. I mean with 800+ why wouldn't they be. Especially at the end where they were going 1000hp+

The difference is that F1 cars as well as LMP1 and other related cars NEED to go fast to generate downforce as to not crash on a corner. Slow F1 or LMP1 is a disaster in the bends. No downforce, no real grip unless the tires are smoking hot, it's a fun balance to maintain.

You need to go fast enough to build up heat in tires and aero downforce so you have enough momentum going into a corner to heat up the brakes so you can actually slow down in time to nail the apex and repeat the cycle all. Over again.

True, but Can-Am cars were from an alien world.

Seriously, those things were just completely unhinged. I'm proud to be from the same state as some of the MOST unhinged Can-Am cars. (Texas, Chaparral)

I always liked the DN shadows. They were sweeeeeeeet. Particularly the 1500hp(potentially) DN4 Shadow.

Remind me to use that excuse next time I get pulled over...

"Sorry officer, but my tyres are bald so I have no grip, so I was hooning so the downforce would help"
